Nature education center in Mniszki

Located in the Land of 100 Lakes, Mniszki is a peaceful hamlet, virtually set somewhere in the middle of a forest. A mobile phone might not work properly here, but we’re sure you won’t have time to think about it. The Education Center in Mniszki is a place full of things to see and do. Built over an old farmstead it is filled with history and joy. Its great location makes it a perfect stopover for those exploring the Land of 100 Lakes or a good starting point for a walking trip in the Kamionka River Valley.

Charm of the past

Most of the spaces house an exhibition devoted to forgotten professions. The first part involves things you might expect: a wheelmaker, a cooper or a saddler. An obvious thing. But the other part shows professions that don’t seem so ancient – you can enter an old analog cinema, a post and telegraph office, a tailor’s shop or even a TV service. That’s right, there were times, when electronics were reparable! The place is highly interactive and has some very good guides onboard. Stories they tell will bring all those old professions back to life.

Do it yourself

Let’s make it clear. Watching things is fun, but making something with your own hands is really cool. In Mniszki they enable you to take part in many engaging workshops. Starting from candle-making, through producing wicker baskets to fixing your own little stool and painting it whatever you like. Larger groups may also take part in pottery workshops, or even try baking their own bread (donuts or gingerbread is also possible for those with a bit of experience). Of course you won’t be left alone with this task. Skilled guides and tutors are there, ready to help you and give hints.

Take a walk

Like we’ve mentioned before, Mniszki is a great starting place to take a waling tour along the Kamionka River Valley. This rapid stream, cutting through the surrounding hills will make you feel just like in the mountains, while being still in Wielkopolska. If you decide to follow the river to the north you will eventually reach Kamionna – a small village on steep cliff. It offers not only a magnificent view, but there is also a beautiful old gothic church to visit.
