The Wyrzysk County Railway is one of a few preserved narrow-gauge railways in Greater Poland. It goes from Białośliwie, a village situated on the Noteć River (east of Piła), through green meadows and gorgeous forests. Throughout the entire season, tourists can enjoy rides powered by both steam and diesel locomotives.
The construction of the narrow-gauge railway network in the vicinity of Wyrzysk and Białośliwie was commissioned by local landowners in 1893. They had encountered this technological innovation four years earlier at the World Exhibition of Technology in Paris (the 1889 Paris Exposition). Such railways, with a track gauge of just 600 mm, could be built in almost any terrain. The Polish landowners established a company known as Wyrzysk County Railways.
Several dozen kilometers of track have survived to this day, but tourist trains operate only on a restored 12-kilometer route. Visitors can take a delightful ride along the whole route on a train pulled by either a diesel or a steam locomotives. What’s more, handcar rides are also available. Trains depart from the Białośliwie Wąskotorowe railway station, next to which a locomotive depot and workshops can be found. A parking lot for visitors is located in front of the main gate.
