Did you know that Poznań is the only city mentioned in the Polish national anthem? Moreover, the author of the lyrics for Dąbrowski’s Mazurek lived in Manieczki near Poznań, whereas General Jan Henryk Dąbrowski himself settled in a palace in the village of Winna Góra – also in the central Greater Poland. The general’s original palace no longer exists, but one can admire the palace built by his successors. It became an important cultural institution.
After many years of military service, General Dąbrowski received the palace, along with surrounding villages and several towns, from Napoleon. Dąbrowski created a kind of a National Sanctuary in the palace, the so-called Temple of Victory, containing relics and documents related to the Napoleonic Wars, which Polish people took part in.
The modern palace, significantly larger than the previous one, was built in 1910 on recommendation of the Mańkowski family, who lived there until the World War II. Nowadays, the palace in Winna Góra is a cultural institution. One of its most important projects is the formation and custodianship of the Organic Work Trail, which connects sites associated with the work of several generations of Poles in favor of the economic and cultural development of Greater Poland.
Visiting the palace’s interiors is only possible by prior appointment, but admission to the park is free.
