The Prosna is an easy and pleasant river in eastern Greater Poland, and even beginners won’t find it challenging. However, it’s long, quite slow-moving, and can seem monotonous, so it’s best to choose a shorter section for the trip. Even for a weekend excursion, you should be well-prepared.
The Prosna water trail is easy, but you’ll need 6-7 days to complete it. For a weekend (or rather a long weekend), we recommend the section from Kalisz to the confluence of the Prosna and the Warta Rivers, or the section from Grabów nad Prosną to Kalisz. Finishing your kayaking trip in Kalisz gives you a perfect chance to stay an extra day or two and explore the city, whose old town is full of historic sights.

The Prosna River is the left tributary of the Warta River and is as long as 217 km. Its source is situated near Olesno in Opole Voivodeship, and it flows into the Warta River near Pyzdry, in the village of Ruda Komorska. The 150-kilometer section from Wieruszów to the confluence of the Prosna and the Warta Rivers is ideal for kayaking trips.
The Prosna River flows peacefully along its entire course, mostly through fields and meadows, so fallen trees on the trail (mainly willows) are rare. As a result, paddling on this trail is fairly easy with only a few portages. In the upper course, the Prosna runs in a quite narrow riverbed, which widens from Kalisz onward.
