South of Poznań, Mosina is known to locals for two things: the ‘gentleman from Mosina’ saying and the Wielkopolska National Park, for which Mosina serves as a true gateway. Kayakers seeking a challenge will enjoy the rewarding Mosina Canal.
Mosina retains its small-town charm, centred on the Market Square, where residents gather daily for shopping and coffee. Nearby stands the Mosina Synagogue, one of the few that survived the war. Today it houses both a museum and a town gallery.
Nearby, the Mosina Canal links the Warta and Obra rivers. A bank sculpture captures the Gentleman from Mosina, a playful reminder of the townspeople’s self-ironic humour. The saying started as a Poznań jab at small-town dandies, betrayed by their provincial elegance.
Gateway to the Wielkopolska National Park
Mosina’s Pożegowo district stretches along the southern slope of Osowa Góra, the highest hill south of Poznań. The uphill walk can leave you out of breath, let alone cycling. The payoff? Pożegowo launches the park’s finest trail in the Wielkopolska National Park. Follow blue then red markers to reach the most notable sights.
The viewing tower on Osowa Góra offers panoramic vistas. On clear days, it is even possible to see the skyscrapers in central Poznań. The tower is currently undergoing renovation and will reopen to visitors soon.
