Canoeing down the Dobrzyca river is destined for those who love weekend canoeing trips and enjoy doing a bit of physical exercise, but aren’t fond of crowds of tourists. However, this river isn’t for amateurs.
The Dobrzyca River is the right tributary of the Piława River. Its source is in meadows near the village of Łysinin, near Czaplinek in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The Dobrzyca flows into the Piława next to the village of Zabrodzie. For almost its entire length (approximately 70 km), it flows through the forests of the Wałcz Lake District.
The Dobrzyca River canoeing trail is well-marked and developed. There aren’t any problems finding accommodation or meals. Depending on the launching point, the trip should take 2-4 days. The persistent ones can continue further along the Piława River to Gwda and Noteć.
Dobrzyca is usually calm and shallow, but the current quickens, and the river narrows between Golce and Ostrowiec. The banks are also the highest there – from several to even a dozen meters – and the water is deeper. At this point, canoeing experience, quick-thinking skills and strength might be needed. In Ostrowiec and Wiesiółka, you’ll encounter two small dams: the first near a bridge, and the second near a former forge powered by river water. On top of that, in Tarnów, the river passes by a trout farm.
