Piława River

The Piława is a clean river and an ideal place for uninterrupted contact with nature. It flows through northern Greater Poland, near the border with West Pomerania, winding via the region’s famous forests. This trail is perfect for beginners and a superb choice for a weekend family kayaking trip.

It takes 4-6 days to complete the whole Piława trail. The route is well-prepared, with many places to stay at along the way, such as camping areas. For a shorter weekend trip, you can choose the section from the village of Szwecja to the river’s mouth in Dobrzyca (about 30 km).

Chillout in a kayak

The Piława is the right and the longest tributary of the Gwda River. It’s just over 80 km long, which is also the length of the kayaking trail. The Piława River starts at Lake Komorze in the Drawsko Lake District and it flows into the Gwda River at Dobrzyca, near Piła.

Paddling on the Piława is truly relaxing, as the trail is quite easy and runs mostly through forested areas. Despite the fact that the river isn’t difficult for the majority of kayakers, you can still encounter some challenges along the way. In its upper course, you’ll glide peacefully via several lakes. But then, after passing through the lakes, you’ll find yourself among interesting terrains with wetlands and marshes, and later a forested area, where, over a distance of more than 15 km, you might not come across a single person.

Moreover, there are some places where fallen trees require you to carry your kayak. These, however, aren’t difficult portages and can even be a fun challenge for children.
