Poznań Potato Museum
‘Pyra’ is the Poznań dialect word for ‘potato’. This vegetable has great importance in the history and culture of the city, being both a staple of regional cuisine and a true symbol. It is therefore no surprise that the Poznań Potato Museum was established here. A visit is not only a journey into the soul of Poznań, but also through the history of the potato itself.
Although potatoes are often seen as a mundane side dish, there are well over 100 varieties and countless ways of preparing them. Visits to the museum are conducted in groups, with each including a tasting.
According to the hosts, visitors to the Poznań Potato Museum can travel to exotic Peru, accompany Francisco Pizarro in the conquest of the Inca Empire, and even venture into outer space to explore the Pyrocentric System. Visitors will also see the court of King John III Sobieski, take part in a potato harvest, and learn how the voracious Colorado potato beetle was fought during the communist era.
